1.5.2
1.5.2 is now up on Derpcraft. Feel free to upgrade.
1.5.2
As always, don’t upgrade until we give the say so. If you upgrade to 1.5.2, you will not be able to play.
Battlegrounds Down
The battleground system is down. Will probably try to fix it later.
Minor updates to custom recipes
I’ve updated the custom recipes. Cracked stone bricks are no longer craftable but they have a chance of dropping when the player mines normal stone bricks. Players can also smelt any variant of Stone Brick and it will return to being the normal Stone Brick block (e.g. Cracked Stone Bricks turn into Stone bricks). This also means that players can smelt normal Stone Bricks and they will output Stone Bricks as well; so don’t waste coal needlessly. Also, Chiseled Stone Brick has had its recipe changed to be a bit more complex, but it now yields four blocks up from one. These changes have been added to the Recipes page.
Anyway, these are just some minor updates. I’ll probably be doing some more substantial updates in the coming weeks.
What’s really next?
With the reduction of my hosts pricing (literally paying half as much as before) I’ve decided to continue hosting Derpcraft on a proper server. This means that Derpcraft will continue functioning like normal. On top of that, as many of you have noticed, the world has been reverted to a modified version of the world we were using in Beta 1.7. It’s been updated to incorporate the new buildings that we made Beta 1.8 and beyond, but the world itself is the exact same Beta 1.7 world we used in the past.
Anyway, sorry for flip flopping on how Derpcraft will run! I’ll be giving it some more love in the coming months!
What’s next?

Wonder if anyone will recognize this picture…
So, I’ve been bouncing ideas back and forth as to what to do about Derpcraft. I’ve decided to keep it going in some sort of capacity. Whether that be continuing to host the server with Linode, move over to Realms, or just host the server locally again; I’m not really sure. With the amount of active players we currently have, I’m leaning heavily toward the last option. The last option wouldn’t allow multiple concurrent connections without causing lag but with the amount of active players we have, I’m not really seeing this as an issue unless everyone logs in at once.
I decided to rethink my initial idea of an outright closing of the server as I still want to be able to play with my friends personally. So, I suppose my last post was an unintentional April Fool’s Joke. I got you all.
If I choose to continue hosting Derpcraft, then the world is going to drastically change again. Clues as to what it will look like are in the screenshot above.
Anyway, hope to have some more information for everyone in the coming weeks!
Minecraft 1.5.1, State of the server and What next?
Server Updated - Derpcraft has been updated to a development build of Bukkit. Since a stable version of Bukkit seems to be taking a bit longer with this update, I’ve just decided to go along using an unstable version. As such, expect bugs and possible server instability.
State of the Server - As many of you know, the server has basically been on life support for the past few months as many people have quit playing and we’re not getting any new players. As such, I think it’s time to close down the server. Coming this June, the server will no longer be operational and I will be putting the game world up for download on the main site. To celebrate the last weeks of Derpcraft, I will be hosting events each Friday of the week during the months of May and June. As June draws to a close, the server will be winding down operation and will ultimately close at the end of the month.
What next? - Mojang will be releasing a new Minecraft Realms platform. With this, any player can easily create their own multiplayer world for a monthly fee (most likely between $10-$15/month) and can invite other players to play on the world. I will not be paying for this service but I encourage anyone who wants to continue playing Minecraft with friends to at least look into it as more details are come out in the coming months.
With that, I want to thank everyone for playing on Derpcraft for the last two years. It’s been a fun ride with everyone and I hope you enjoy these last months on it. Check here for news in May about the weekly events!
Introducing Battlegrounds!

Players are now able to use a new feature called Battlegrounds. This feature allows players to join battle matches where players must face off against mobs or each other. Currently, there is only one map available which is the cabin from the previous event we had. In this map, players face off against mobs who are breaking down the fences and walls of a small cabin in the woods.
To join a battleground, the player must use the “/bg <level>” (replace <level> with the battleground you wish to join, for example, “/bg cabin”)
There will be more battlegrounds in the near future, including PvP arenas, but enjoy the current battleground!
More information can be found on the battlegrounds page.
Fixed mob spawning
The mob spawning has been fixed to work like it did before I updated the server. So, that means mobs will only spawn on designated blocks and only up to a certain height. It might break again but for now it’s working. So no need to look over your shoulder… for now.
